At Ideal Concept Farms Limited (ICF), we’re committed to revolutionizing local goat and sheep genetics by importing and breeding purebred animals from South Africa. These animals are chosen for their rapid growth, high reproduction rate, and superior genetics compared to local breeds. Our primary goal is to make goat and sheep farming a profitable endeavour for small-scale farmers. We aim to do this by providing them access to select purebred animals for crossbreeding, thereby enhancing the genetics of their local goats and sheep.
Our genetic offerings include pure meat goats such as Boer, Savanna, and Red Kalahari. Additionally, we offer crossbred goats for training purposes, demonstrating to farmers how they can enhance their local goat genetics by crossbreeding with speciality purebred goats. In response to community demand for diversity and preferences, we’re also in the process of introducing Dorper sheep to our speciality of pure genetics commercial livestock pool.
Boer goats
Originating from South Africa, the Boer goat breed is renowned for its exceptional meat characteristics and adaptability to various grazing environments. At ICF, we’ve chosen to breed Boer goats due to their global recognition as a premier meat goat breed, reflecting our dedication to high-quality goat breeding.
Boer goats are highly valued for their large size, quick weight gain, superior meat quality, resilience in harsh climates, and docile nature. These traits can be inherited when Boer bucks are crossbred with does from different goat breeds. Boer does are known for their excellent maternal instincts, often giving birth three times over two years. It’s common for them to have twins after their first birthing, and occasionally, they may even have triplets or more.
Crossbreeds
At ICF, our primary focus in livestock breeding is on enhancing the genetic quality of local goats. We are engaged in a careful process of crossbreeding select does (Galla, Toggenburg, Alpine, and Saannen) with genetically superior bucks (Boer, Savanna, and Red Kalahari). Our objective is to foster the development of crossbreeds that mature quickly, have a high carcass weight, and offer improved meat quality.
